Dreams

It's been a while, but I'm finally beginning to remember some of my dreams again.  I'm not sure what the change is, but it's a happy one.

About a week ago I had a dream someone was outfitting me with neural implants in order to control re-runs of Happy Days for some reason.  I'm still trying to figure out where that one came from.  Last night I dreamt I was in a gloomy train yard after hours and wanted to check out something on wikipedia, so I pulled down a browser bar and typed the URL in.  It wouldn't let me got to wikipedia though.  Apparently, there were some rad roaches in the train yard, and you can't quick travel with enemies nearby.

I think I might have Fallout 3 on the brain.

The Wii is Back Online

I finally got my Wii to update.  For some reason it suddenly decided it wasn't cool with one of my network settings.  It took a bit of experimenting to find out which one.

After getting the update I was able to download Boingz and World of Goo.  That made me happy.  No more puppy sadness for this young gentleman.

I'm still not sure why the Wii decided it didn't like that setting, though.  Maybe the setting owed it money or started dating the Wii's sister?

Boingz Released

Boingz was released on WiiWare yesterday.  I would have posted then, but was busy trying to get my Wii to talk to the Internet so I could download the game.  Sadly, the Wii is still being a stubborn beast.

This whole Wii not talking to the internet thing also means I haven't played World of Goo or the most recent Strong Bad games.  It also means I am sad.  Sad like a sad, little puppy.

Boingz Announced

Boingz was announced today!

In my experience a game is not usually this far into development before it receives some sort of announcement.  Once that happens, I may not be able to go into any detail about the project, but I can at least say, "I'm working on X," when someone asks about work.  Not so with Boingz, a game I've wanted to talk about so bad for the past several months.

Boingz is a physics driven, puzzle/platform game coming out "soon."  A physics based game is  something new for me, and something I've been wanting to do for a long time.  The programmers on the project have done a great job making sure things in the game work and feel right.  I am very excited to see how people react to it.

XBLA Ratings and Band of Bugs

I was recently privileged to participate in a Q&A interview with XBLA Ratings about Band of Bugs.  It's been a while since the game received any press, and it was encouraging to see continued interest.

In related news, Jeffry Wiggins has started posting character model renders from the game to his blog.

Why I Won't Be Getting Spore

Spore looks like a really cool game.  Despite some slight disappointments I had with the Creature Creator,  I still had a good deal of fun.  I was very much looking forward to raising my very own civilizations of cosmic horrors from beyond the rim - those or Care Bears. Sadly, due to the draconian DRM scheme EA decided to shackle the product with, I will not be sending my money their way.  You see, Spore requires an internet activation to use.  As if that weren’t bad enough, you are limited to three installs… ever.  The notion that the game I legitimately purchased will become unplayable due to any number of inevitable reasons is horrific enough for me that I will wait until it is either changed, or he Rapture.  In the event of the latter, I figure I will have bigger things to worry about than whether I can play a PC game or not.

This whole thing just serves to remind me of one of the many reasons I shy away from PC games these days, sticking to consoles for my entertainment.  At least I have Dawn of War to keep my PC from feeling neglected, and Dawn of War II when it comes out…

…Unless it has DRM.

D&D Character Sketch

This is a sketch I was working on for one of my D&D characters while trying to get used to my new computer setup.  We were actually gaming at the time, so I couldn't pay much attention to it.  I doubt I'll return to this piece, but I figure it succeeded in helping convey the basic concept of the character's physical nature, and that's a win for me.
